SECURITY GUIDE

How to create a secure Wi‑Fi password

Your router password protects your connection, devices and the information travelling across your home network.

Use a long, exclusive password

Choose a password of at least 16 characters for your Wi‑Fi. Do not reuse the one you use for email, streaming platforms or social networks. The generator’s Wi‑Fi preset creates a long option with varied characters.

Change the default password

Routers often include a password printed on their label. Replace it when you set up the network, and also change the router administration password, which must differ from the Wi‑Fi password.

Use WPA3 or WPA2

Enable WPA3 if your router and devices support it. If they do not, use WPA2. Avoid WEP and do not leave your network open: these are outdated options that do not adequately protect your connection.

Create a guest network

Offer visitors a separate guest network. This way they do not need to know the main password or gain direct access to devices on your home network.
